Enable and turn on Facebook Chat sounds

As you learned in the previous tutorial, you can disable and turn off Facebook Chat sounds, which are enabled by default; when you do, Facebook will remember your preferences, and automatically apply them whenever you login to your account, even from another location, different browser, or other computer. The advantage of this approach is that you do not need to mute chat sounds whenever you use Facebook from another location, but the disadvantage is that you might not want your new chat messages to play a sound when you login to Facebook at work, but you may have a new chat sound play in the background when you are using Facebook at home. In this tutorial, we will show you how to re-enable and turn back on the new message sound for Facebook Chat, in just a few clicks.

Enable the new chat sound in Facebook

This is how easily you turn on the Facebook Chat sounds:

Once you are signed into your Facebook account, click on the "Chat" button in the lower right corner of the page, to open the chat client.
Then, click on the "Options" button as shown on the screenshot below:
Once the Facebook Chat options menu opens, check the "Play Sound for New Messages" checkbox; if it was already checked, your chat sounds were already enabled, and you probably just need to turn on your computer speakers, or turn up the sound volume.
Facebook will immediately apply and save your new sounds setting; click on the chat button to hide the Options menu and chat client (or just click on the Options button to hide the menu).

From thereon, every new message your receive through Facebook Chat will play a sound; just remember that you may need to turn that setting off when you get back to work in the morning!
